Since 1852, when John Willmott founded our company, we've been driven by a simple belief: great construction creates lasting societal value. Today, under CEO Graham Dundas and Executive Chairman Rick Willmott—John's direct descendant—we proudly remain a privately-owned construction and interior fit-out group committed to this founding principle.
Our passion lies in delivering work that improves life opportunities and creates sustainable legacies for our customers and communities. Being privately owned gives us a unique perspective—we can focus on long-term impact rather than short-term returns, allowing us to invest in what truly matters: our people, our communities, and our planet.
Our people-first culture isn't just a statement—it's evidenced by the 20% of our workforce who've chosen to build their careers with us for over a decade. We believe diverse and inclusive teams deliver better outcomes for customers while creating an exceptional workplace.
This commitment extends to our ambitious goal of achieving gender parity across all management levels by 2030, because when our people thrive, our projects—and communities—benefit.
Through the Peter Willmott Foundation, over 80% of our people annually contribute to community wellbeing projects. This isn't corporate box-ticking—it's who we are.
As Rick Willmott explains: "I believe passionately our company has a purpose beyond profit and, with its scale, a real opportunity to be a catalyst for positive change wherever we work. This happens not only through what we build and maintain, but through the fantastic efforts of all our people who enhance their local communities."
Our sector-leading commitment to community development has been recognised with five King's and Queen's Awards for Enterprise—making us the first construction company to hold both sustainable development and promoting opportunity accolades simultaneously.
In 2020, we launched "Now or Never, Our decisive decade"—the construction sector's most ambitious science-based sustainability strategy. We became the first large contractor to commit to net zero operations by 2030, meaning our activities and projects will create no additional carbon within ten years.
From essential school places to much-needed housing, from reimagined town centres to leisure facilities that bring communities together—our buildings across England and Wales create lasting legacies that improve lives for generations to come.
Every project we undertake reflects our core belief: construction should serve society, sustain communities, and safeguard our planet's future.
