SEN Students in Birmingham design sustainable village

15 SEN students take part in construction activity

We worked with SEN (special educational needs) students at Heart of Birmingham Vocational College to support their future employment.

15 students worked on our Green Villages Programme over a five-week period, where they were tasked with creating their own construction company and taking on a specific responsibility to cost, plan, design and build a Green Village.

The programme enables students to develop skills such as working in a team, confidence and working on their presentation skills.

The students also weaved their ideas on sustainability into their villages, with environmental impact considered, as well as sustainable essentials for each house in the village.

At the end of the five weeks, the students presented their village to a panel of people who work for our Interiors business.

“Thank you for working with my class. It is great to see their progress over the five weeks and how they have all developed in confidence. The task really embedded a lot of employment related skills, and it was great to see learners being creative with their designs.” - Mariam Choudry, Heart of Birmingham Vocational College
