Willmott Dixon Interiors, the interior design and fit-out specialist of Willmott Dixon Group, has won a £800,000 contract to refurbish the UK headquarters of Colorcon, a world leader in pharmaceutical coatings and associated technologies.
The new interior for Colorcon’s office at Flagship House in Crossways Business Park, Dartford, has been designed by CMI Consulting, with Interiors carrying out refurbishment in two phases while the building remains occupied. Interiors also aim to send zero waste to landfill.
Interiors managing director Gerry Graville says, “Our fast-track 13 week project will upgrade and modernise Colorcon’s existing laboratories, office space and store rooms. It will provide a superb new working environment that will impress both staff and visitors.”
Interiors will also carry out some demolition work, followed by installation of specialist high performance partitioning, hermetically sealed glass internal doors, floor and ceiling finishes, and new sanitary ware. To optimise energy consumption, Interiors will also install new lighting and ventilation systems.
Sustainability is a key theme and the zero waste target is just one element. Interiors have developed the fit-out market’s first ever 10 Point Sustainable Project Criteria and it will be applied to Colorcon’s project.
This 10 point criteria set benchmarks for the environmental, economic and social consequences of a project, and measures performance against them.
Gerry says, “Our plan sets strict targets for things like diverting waste from landfill and the use of recycled materials on projects, as well as assessing whole life costs and energy efficiency. For example, our target is to achieve 20 per cent recycled content by value on all projects, rising to 30 per cent by 2012”.
“For our work at Colorcon, we will have procedures to segregate waste so that we can divert all waste from landfill.”
Colorcon is a new client for Interiors, but this is the second project the contractor has carried out with interior design specialist CMI Consulting.
Willmott Dixon also has a large office at Crossways Business Park, from where it carries out construction projects across Kent.
