Landmark celebrates new era for town centre
Willmott Dixon’s role as one of the largest constructors of health and wellbeing accommodation was underlined when it was confirmed as main contractor on the £45 million redevelopment of benenden hospital in Cranbrook, Kent.
benenden hospital is a flagship independent hospital that provides healthcare to thousands of people each year and Willmott Dixon will deliver its master plan to transform the hospital with new and updated facilities to meet society’s changing healthcare needs.
The redevelopment will see all patients staying at the hospital benefit from single bedrooms. Further modifications will enhance and improve the patient experience by creating a new main entrance with adjacent car park and drop off area, plus a glass roofed atrium providing patients and visitors with a relaxation area and catering facilities.
The hospital will also be able to provide superb, updated facilities for treatment, such as scanning and diagnostic imaging all under one roof, an expansion of the physiotherapy area, modern operating theatres and a new endoscopy unit as part of a comprehensive refurbishment.
The contract is between Willmott Dixon and benenden health, who own the benenden hospital site. benenden hospital welcomes benenden health members, NHS Choose and Book patients and private patients. benenden hospital is at Cranbrook, Kent.

benenden hospital director Jane Abbott said: “This is fantastic news. This is a milestone in the hospital’s 107 year history.”
The work is due to be complete by December 2016
