A team of 10 from Willmott Dixon Partnerships and Yorkshire Coast Homes pedalled their way to £2,000 for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity (GOSH) by cycling 85 miles from Rotherham to Scarborough.
The initiative is part of a pledge by Willmott Dixon Partnerships, the repairs and maintenance brand of Willmott Dixon, to raise £20,000 this year for GOSH.
The Rotherham to Scarborough bike ride was one of the first of a series of year-long activities for GOSH, with participants including Willmott Dixon’s Scarborough branch manager Stuart Witty and chief executive of Yorkshire Coast Homes Shaun Tymon.
Stuart Witty said: “We wanted to do something on a grand scale and what better way than to cycle between our Rotherham and Scarborough branches; a fantastic idea from our Scarborough customer and community officer, Susan Godbold, who did a great job rallying support.
“We were thrilled to have so many people come forward to take part – even those who hadn’t cycled on this scale before. Everyone enjoyed the day – more so knowing that we all worked to raise such a fantastic figure for a worthwhile charity. This event has certainly got our UK-wide fundraising pledge off to a great start.”
Other participants included members of Willmott Dixon’s team from its contracts with Home Group Central and Rotherham.
Shaun Tymon from Yorkshire Coast Homes added: “I am a keen cyclist and taking part in this group event was a great experience. We all supported one another – not only in raising money but on the day too. I am proud that we have worked in partnership with Willmott Dixon to leave a lasting legacy for GOSH.” The team completed the cycle in eight hours and finished up at Willmott Dixon Partnerships' branch in Scarborough.
Earlier in the month the Scarborough team held a Fun Friday event to also raise money for GOSH. Raising £237, the event included a host of fun activities including sponge the boss and a cake sale. The money raised will be added to the Scarborough branch’s running total.
Willmott Dixon Partnerships currently works with Yorkshire Coast Homes on a £3.2million contract to repair and maintain 4,500 homes in Scarborough and Whitby.
