Willmott Dixon appoints Stuart Hosegood to lead safety, health and environment

Former Cala Group HSE Director who chaired the Home Builders Federation’s Health and Safety Committee will lead SHE strategy across Willmott Dixon’s Construction and Interiors businesses

Willmott Dixon has appointed Stuart Hosegood as its Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) Director, giving him strategic leadership of safety, health and environmental performance across its Construction and Interiors businesses.

Stuart brings more than 30 years of SHE leadership across construction, housebuilding, oil and gas, manufacturing and quarrying. He joins from housebuilder Cala Group, where as Group HSE Director he led SHE strategy, governance, culture and performance across the business. Before that he was Head of Health & Safety at Berkeley Group.

He has also worked to raise standards across the wider industry. Stuart previously chaired the Home Builders Federation’s Health and Safety Committee and has been involved in the Managing Risk Well working group of CONIAC, the Construction Industry Advisory Committee that advises the Health and Safety Executive.

His remit covers a portfolio that includes the Emergency Care Building at Derriford Hospital (below) in Plymouth, the first Wave 1 New Hospital Programme scheme to top out, and The Stage in Luton, a regeneration scheme delivering 292 homes, a music venue and a new public square for Luton Borough Council. Willmott Dixon Interiors is involved in early work on the refurbishment of the London Fire Brigade headquarters. Recent completions include the Hertfordshire Constabulary headquarters in Welwyn Garden City and the Staffordshire University Student Village in Stoke-on-Trent.

SHE as a driver of performance

Stuart’s priorities include strengthening leadership engagement, learning from both successes and failures, and making more effective use of data and technology to focus on the factors that most influence performance.

On the environmental side, Willmott Dixon cut its absolute carbon emissions by 14% in 2025 and by 63% against its 2018 baseline, and is committed to becoming a net zero carbon company by 2030.

Stewart Brundell, Chief Operating Officer of Willmott Dixon’s Construction business:

“Stuart brings a rare combination of experience at the sharp end of high-risk industries and influence at industry level, through the HBF and CONIAC. Stuart’s focus is on continuing to make SHE part of how we plan and lead work, taking forward our strong culture here and working with our team to set even higher standards.”

Stuart Hosegood, SHE Director at Willmott Dixon:

“SHE is much more than compliance. It should be an enabler of high performance that helps us deliver work safely, sustainably and efficiently, while creating an environment where everyone can thrive.
“Willmott Dixon already has a strong reputation for doing the right thing. My aim is to build on that, so SHE is embedded in every decision we make, with strong, visible leadership, effective risk management and teams who feel confident to speak up and be challenged. Safety, health and environmental performance is everyone’s responsibility, and the measure of success is simple: every person goes home safe and well.”
