Willmott Dixon has been appointed by Wycombe District Council to create a new landmark sports and leisure centre in High Wycombe.
Designed by AFLS+P architects, the 10,750 m² rectangular Wycombe Sports Centre will be clad in copper and aluminium panels that have four different finishes to give it a highly distinctive look.
Inside the centre will be a wide range of sport and leisure facilities, including a 12 court sports hall, eight lane 50m swimming pool, sub-aqua dive pit, 150 station gym, four rink indoor bowls hall, two squash courts, climbing wall and café. Other features include a multi storey car park, food store, coach park and ride terminus.
The current Wycombe Sports Centre will remain open while the new leisure centre is built adjacent to it, on the current site of the running track. Construction will start this Spring and be complete by autumn 2015.
The appointment is the latest in a series of projects for Willmott Dixon to build leisure accommodation across the region. Other recent projects include Acton Town Hall and an East of England centre of sporting excellence in St Albans.
