Willmott Dixon secures Eston Pool development
Appointment follows successful leisure hub project in Morpeth
The Building Safety Fund will be used to meet new standards set out in the Building Safety Act
Willmott Dixon has been appointed to deliver an £8.8m cladding remediation project in Birmingham City Centre for Jupiter (Phase 2) Management Company Limited, following updates to the Government’s Building Safety Act.
The project utilises the Building Safety Fund, part of the Building Safety Programme that was introduced following the Grenfell Tower tragedy, which remediates cladding on residential buildings more than 18m high in England.
The scheme, project managed by Ridge and Partners LLP, involves removal and replacement of the existing seven-storey façade. The new exterior, designed by Design Engine Architects, includes a mix of render, brickwork and timber to give the building a refreshed appearance.
Michelle Cotterill, director at Willmott Dixon, said:
“With the recent changes to legislation following the Grenfell Tower tragedy, we’re pleased to be working with Jupiter (Phase 2) Management Company Limited to bring the premises up to a standard that will give added peace of mind to residents knowing that it meets the requirements of the new Buildings Safety Act.”
A key priority for the Willmott Dixon team will be minimising disruption for households, with residents remaining in their homes throughout the remediation works. As a result, the contractor has assigned a resident liaison officer to this project to ensure those living in the building are kept informed and involved for the entire duration.
Michelle added:
“We are proud to be recognised as a contractor who can deliver for the community, allowing Birmingham residents to live with peace of mind. Our resident liaison officer will be key to ensuring the works go smoothly and residents feel in the loop and part of the process – a vital aspect of this project.”
The RMC Board of Directors at Jupiter (Phase 2) Management Company Limited, said:
“We’re pleased that work has begun via the Building Safety Fund to make our homes safe.”
Adrian Goulding, partner at Ridge and Partners LLP, said:
“It is fantastic to be on site and delivering a solution for residents. We’ve worked closely with the client throughout the funding and procurement process and are proud to be drawing on our expertise in cladding remediation to support leaseholders and managing agents.”
