Primrose Lane Primary School, Yeovil
Latest Sunesis Keynes school in Somerset to save time and money while creating more places
Primrose Lane Primary School opened in 2017 as Somerset’s newest primary school with a nursery, providing much needed school places in the area.
Watch it built in under three minutes!
This is the first Sunesis School for our client Somerset
County Council but is the 5th we have built in Wales and the West.
The school was needed to meet the need for extra places in Yeovil. The best solution for a brand new school that was also cost effective was Sunesis!
Open in 2017
Primrose Lane Primary School, part of the part of the Huish Multi Academy Trust, opened its doors after the half-term break in Summer 2017, following our completion of the eight-classroom project - including a nursery. The school started with 13 children, with another 30 due starting in September.
Completing the £3.5 million school in just six months from initial engagement ticked all the boxes! as local councils continue to respond to the increasing need to provide additional school places.
Annie Sherrard, head teacher at Primrose Lane Primary, was delighted!
“Parents and teachers alike are very excited and pleased that the new school is now complete and I’ve had some really positive feedback from members of staff who are very impressed. It’s really exciting to be part of this new school and the children, parents and staff can really mould and influence what it becomes. It’s going to be so lovely to see the school grow.”
Councillor Frances Nicholson, Cabinet member for Children and Families:
“It’s fantastic to see Primrose open and the pupils enjoying all its facilities. We’re committed to giving children the opportunity to flourish and realise their full potential, so we invest millions of pounds every year in building and maintaining schools."
Sunesis Keynes
Opting for a Sunesis ‘Keynes’ design, it provided the council with everything a school needed; clear
layout with flexible spaces, easy access to the outside for play, large open
spaces for community use, all at an affordable price.
Pupils were based at Huish Primary Academy Trust while they waited for their new school to be finished. There are only 6 pupils at present with the department of education deciding to open the school early to cater for the increased demand in school places in Yeovil.
