Willmott Dixon has pledged to donate up to 400 laptops a year to people who need them most as part of its ‘Building Lives Through Tech’ programme to help those in most need during the pandemic and address digital poverty in communities.
So far, over 75 laptops have been donated to local schools, social enterprises and community groups to help people study, find work and run businesses. The laptops come from across the company and are made ready for re-use by Willmott Dixon’s IT team before being donated to their new owners as part of its Building Lives strategy to improve the life chances of society’s most vulnerable people.
Alan Ramsay, chief information officer at Willmott Dixon explains:
“Helping those who need it most during the pandemic is at the heart of our ethos and was behind our Building Lives Through Tech programme. This seeks to address wider digital poverty by donating our recycled IT equipment to under-privileged groups via schools, social enterprises, community interest companies, charities or other organisations.”
”The pandemic has accelerated the need for technology to work and learn, and we are proud of the impact our programme will have on people’s life opportunities.”
An overarching objective of Willmott Dixon’s ‘Now or Never’ sustainability strategy is to improve the lives of 100,000 people, with the Building Lives Through Tech programme instrumental to achieving this.
