Willmott Dixon has redeveloped Therapia Lane Depot in Sutton to breathe new life into a discussed industrial facility.
It provides a new home for all Sutton’s waste collection and street cleaning vehicles, with the installation of 11 new EV charging points further reducing the depot’s reliance on fossil fuel power.
Prior to these works, the site was not in use as a vehicle depot and Sutton’s waste services were operating from neighbouring areas, meaning they were spending unnecessary time and fuel on travel.
Procured via the Procurement Hub Framework, it is part of a wider commitment from London Borough of Sutton to prepare for future growth in the borough as they plan for the number of properties in the area to expand.
Redeveloping this depot also means the London Borough of Sutton can sustainably provide waste and street cleaning services to the growing area. It comes as the council is actively pursuing a net-zero drive with a goal to achieve borough-wide net-zero carbon emissions by 2045. This includes measures like purchasing fully renewable electricity for the council's estate since 2021, supporting energy efficiency measures for residents, and partnering with businesses to help them reach net-zero.

“This totally rebuilt depot at Therapia Lane ensures that the Council can continue to reduce waste, switch to a circular economy and work towards a net zero carbon future for Sutton. Under the previous contract, the Council used depots in Croydon and Merton. Having a dedicated Sutton depot will cut travel times from the depot to Sutton homes and disposal sites, as well as reduce vehicle emissions. This is a big step forward in making Sutton cleaner and greener.”
