Company will take the design through preconstruction stage to agree main contract
Portsmouth City Council has chosen Willmott Dixon as preferred contractor for its Bransbury Park Leisure Centre project in Eastney.
This will see Willmott Dixon now work with the council on the final stages of the design process before plans are submitted for planning permission in Autumn.
This is an important step towards providing residents with a sports, swimming and GP facility within a modern leisure centre that promotes health, well-being and social interaction in line with the council’s vision.
Cllr Steve Pitt, Portsmouth City Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure & Economic Development, said:
“We’re pleased to be working with Willmott Dixon, who has extensive leisure construction experience, to deliver a state-of-the-art leisure facility for our residents. We’re excited to submit our updated design plans for planning permission in Autumn, moving us a step closer to delivering a sports and swimming facility for people to enjoy healthier and happier lives.”
Richard Poulter, managing director for Willmott Dixon in the South added, “We are looking forward to working with the city council to take forward this important project in the heart of Portsmouth. We have a long track-record of delivering property that brings together a number of uses and services ‘under one roof’ as a vital part of supporting community well-being and prosperity, which we discuss in our ‘blueprint for growth’ here. Our focus will now be on developing Bransbury Park Leisure Centre’s plans further so this exciting project can obtain planning permission later this year.”
Willmott Dixon’s appointment was facilitated through the Southern Construction Framework. James Wright, senior framework manager says: “We are pleased to have supported the procurement of this incredibly important project for Portsmouth City Council. We look forward to watching the progress of this leisure facility that will bring a huge number of benefits to the local community.”
