Kanvas, the commercial interior design specialist of Willmott Dixon Group, has won a contract to transform the office of one of the City’s most respected insurance groups.
The business saw off competition from several competitors for a fast-track eight week project to fit-out 14,000 square feet of office space for Barbican Insurance Group, based at No 1 Cornhill. It’s the first time Barbican has commissioned a bespoke interior design of its offices and the emphasis is on combining sustainability with new facilities that support a high class, modern working environment.
Kanvas used its in-house design team to create an office lay-out for Barbican that includes a dedicated broker lounge and new conference facility. To ensure better, more sustainable use of energy, there will also be energy efficient lighting with movement sensors, while the plasterboard used will be recycled and the new carpets will comprise of recycled material.
In addition, the company will recycle the old carpet tiles to minimise waste, retain current ceilings and adapt existing mechanical services. This fits in with Kanvas’ target to achieve 20 per cent recycled content by value in all projects, rising to 30 per cent by 2012.
Gerry Graville, managing director of Kanvas, said, “This required a very bespoke solution from our in-house designers to create an office environment to match Barbican’s aspirations. Our work will capture the vision, aspirations and brand image of Barbican and make sure they are reflected in its new office space.
“The look and feel of an office is such an important part of a company’s reputation; we are pleased and excited to be playing a lead role in giving Barbican an office environment their staff will be proud to work in and their clients will be impressed with.”
